Golf Digest Rates Cypress Point No. 3 in America, No. 1 in California

Walt Hommerding, Managing Director-Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors in Newport Beach, California, joined the wealth management company in 2002. When not providing clients with a holistic approach to financial planning and wealth management, Walt Hommerding enjoys golfing throughout the Orange County area and, when possible, at courses all around the United States.

Golf Digest has announced its top golf courses in California for 2017-2018, and once again, Cypress Point Club at Pebble Beach tops the list. Cypress Point was built by Alister MacKenzie and Robert Hunter in 1928 and broke onto the Golf Digest America’s “100 Greatest Golf Courses” list in 1966, the list’s first year. The course has maintained its grounds over the last century, though it has endured fewer renovations compared to similar courses.

Cypress Point is a visually stunning golf course running along a jagged stretch of Pacific coast line. The course is also known for its unique bunkering and commitment to classic golf course architecture, not to mention the omnipresent cypress. In 1987-1988, the course was ranked No. 2 in the nation, its highest ranking. For 2017-2018, the course ranks No. 1 in California and No. 3 in America.
