Wounded Warrior Project’s Overall Reach in 2017

The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Walt Hommerding is an experienced financial planner who serves as Managing Director-Investments of Newport Beach, California’s Wells Fargo Advisors. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Walt Hommerding is a regular supporter of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

Since its establishment in the early 2000s following the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center and subsequent Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn, WWP has provided programming, as well as financial and emotional support, to over 110,000 veterans and service members. On January 4, the nonprofit organization released its annual report for 2017, which highlighted over 341,000 instances in which it engaged with its warriors, their families, and caregivers.

Throughout 2017, WWP made over 109,000 wellness checks and sent out a combined 5 million copies of its weekly email newsletter. Frequent interactions play an instrumental role in rehabilitation and recovery as four of five veterans listed social engagement and support as vital to each process in a recent survey. Additionally, Warrior Care Network, which is a collaboration of four academic medical centers and WWP, provided over 42,000 hours of clinical mental health treatment in 2017.
